The Success Story of AGRICO 2018

The 5^th International Conference on Agriculture 2018 – (AGRICO 2018) was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Al-Balqa’ Applied University, Jordan, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultual University, Indonesia, and Wayamba University of Sri Lanka as the Hosting Partners and University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Indonesia, Georgian Technical University, Georgia, Chonbuk National University, South Korea, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, Southern Leyte State University, Philippines and Progressive Sustainable Developers –Nepal as the academic partners of the Conference. Ministry of Agriculture, Sri Lanka was the supporting Ministry while Sri Lanka Convention Bureau was the strategic partner of the AGRICO 2018 Conference.

Inauguration Ceremony

The Conference was held on 16^th – 17^th August 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka. AGRICO 2018 was organized under the theme “Innovations in Agriculture for a Sustainable Future” and was chaired by Dr. Samih Abubaker, Former Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Al-Balqa` Applied University, Jordan and Prof. D.C. Abeysinghe, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

The opening remarks of AGRICO 2018 were made by Conference Chairs Dr. Samih Abubaker and Prof. D.C. Abeysinghe together with Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director, The International Institute of Knowledge Management).

Keynote Forum

Key note forum was one of the most significant moments during the conference and it was enlightened by the keynote speech by Prof. Udith K. Jayasinghe Mudalige (Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Wayamba University, Sri Lanka) on the topic “The Future of Food and Agriculture: Trends & Challenges”.

Theme based sessions

The 5th International Conference on Agriculture 2018 (AGRICO 2018) was comprised with three (03) special sessions under below themes:

Theme 1 – Export Agriculture

Theme 2 – Organic Agriculture

Theme 3 – Agriculture and Climate Change

AGRICO 2018 provided the opportunity for all the participants to present their research papers in any of the above session. Each session was chaired by the session chair and the session was started with a speech from a renowned plenary speaker with sound academic background. The sessions were further carried on for two hours and it included 10 – 15 presentations of the same subject area. Finally, the session’s best presentation had been selected at the end of each session.

AGRICULTURE STALLS

Kingdom of Rice

“Kingdom of Rice” a stall with diverse varieties of rice, was organized by Rice Research Institute of Sri Lanka, on 16^th -17^th August, 2018 at the ‘Agrico’ conference premises. Participants who had attended the “Kingdom of Rice” stall were able to purchase multiple varieties of rice (organic rice, wild and new etc.), diverse rice related products and they also could gain insights on the latest trends in the rice industry.

Heaven of Tea

“Heaven of Tea” a tea stall with amazing varieties of tea, was organized by Sri Lanka Tea Board (Ceylon Tea), on both 16^th -17^th August, at the conference premises. Participants were able to experience this wonderful opportunity of live tea testing and purchasing unique varieties of tea.

Coconut, the all-rounder

“Coconut, the all-rounder”, was organized by Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority, was held on 16th -17th August, 2018. Participants were able to purchase coconut based products (Kernel products, Fiber products, shell products etc.) They also obtained awareness of Eco Friendly product innovations (Water purification, Catalyst support and numerous other applications etc.)

Publication Workshop

The workshop on writing scientific papers for publication had been conducted by the Conference Co- Chair Dr. Samih Abubaker (Al-Balqa` Applied University, Jordan). Researchers and students had earned valuable experiences through this workshop. The workshop also guided participants to reach and submit the proceedings to be indexed in the world class high reputed journals like SCOPUS, Thomson Reuters and Google Scholar.

Conference Chair Workshop

This workshop was arranged by the Conference Co – Chair Dr. Samih Abubaker (Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Al-Balqa’ Applied University, Jordan) to discuss on the outcomes and get feedback of the Conference. Moreover, the plans to be executed when organizing for AGRICO 2019 had been discussed during the workshop. The workshop provided an insight to deliver the future conferences in a fruitful way with the outputs received by Conference Chair, Participants and Organizers.

Networking Dinner and Cultural Show

The 5th International Conference on Agriculture 2018 (AGRICO 2018) was included by networking dinner and cultural show. AGRICO 2018 dinner was an immense opportunity for all the participants to build new connections to strengthen their ongoing and future research interests through collaboration. It was aimed to provide a fruitful time of networking and pleasure for the participants of this special featured event.
